PowerTalk: Bone stress injuries: running analysis & retraining for distance runners

Bone stress injuries (BSI) are relatively common in distance running athletes exposed to large volumes of training. They can be challenging to manage and recurrence of bone stress injurues are unfortunately common. This session will provide an overview of the risk factors associated with bone stress problems, describe ways to analyze distance running mechanics, and recommend approaches to prevent and manage these injuries including the role of running retraining.

- Perform a systematic video analysis of a distance runner with an emphasis on key metrics related to bone stress injury
- Identify effective approaches to modify the running form to mitigate bone stress injury risk
