PowerTalk: Patellar subluxation and dislocation - options for rehabilitation?!
Direct aanmeldenPlanning
Inhoud
Patellar instability is a condition characterized by patellar subluxation or dislocation episodes. This PowerTalk will teach you all you need to know from hypermobility to surgical stabilisation. Claire will use her extensive experience (working exclusively in the PFJ field for over 15 years) to explore the multiple reasons for patellar instability. This will explore growth and dysplasia, tissue damage, hypermobility, strength deficits and neuromuscular stability.
There will be explanation of surgical interventions and how to predict who will need surgery and the optimum timing. Controversies in childhood decision making will be discussed.
Measurement and treatment of kinesiophobia will be explored as will be the use of braces and tape. The PowerTalk will be underpinned by evidence, anatomy, biomechanics and exercise physiology.
Leerdoelen
By the end of the talk the student will be able to:
- Explain causes of PFJ instability.
- Describe surgical interventions and highlight who should be referred for a surgical opinion.
- Plan a post-op rehabilitation programme for PFJ instability surgery.
- Map out a comprehensive non-surgical rehabilitation plan including management of kinesiophobia.
